Na quarta-feira, dia 14, foi realizada na Secretaria Municipal de Segurança e Defesa Civil uma palestra sobre Prevenção ao Suicídio, cujo objetivo é conscientizar as pessoas sobre o suicídio, bem como procurar evitar esse acontecimento, difundindo a campanha Setembro Amarelo. A palestra teve a participação de Guardas Civis, Agentes da Defesa Civil, Agentes de Trânsito, Assessores da Secretaria de Segurança, Defesa Civil e Guarda Civil, bem como dos alunos da Faculdade Anhanguera de Rio Claro, e foi ministrada pela Dra. Maria Aparecida da Silva Amorim, que também é Coordenadora do Curso de Psicologia da Faculdade Anhanguera de Rio Claro. Durante a palestra foi mostrado que o suicídio é multifatorial, onde na maioria dos casos, há uma doença mental envolvida; Esquizofrenia; Transtorno de Personalidade; Bipolaridade; Depressão e Abuso de álcool e substâncias. Sintomas depressivos mais associados ao suicídio: prejuízo da autoestima, sentimentos de desesperança, e incapacidade de enfrentar e resolver problemas. Esses sintomas podem não estar presentes no início do quadro, mais a medida que a depressão vai se tornando mais grave, a baixa da autoestima vai piorando, vão surgindo sentimentos de inutilidade e, progressivamente, o indivíduo vai ficando mais desesperado. São fontes de apoio a família, amigos, CVV, profissionais de saúde e rede de apoio – CAPS. O que fazer para ajudar? Oferecer ajuda; Não julgar; Ouvir; Abraçar e Ser presença.
